School Meal

IMPORTANT BACK TO SCHOOL MEAL INFORMATION

Over the past 2 years, the federal government allowed schools to offer free meals to all students due to the COVID pandemic. However, Congress did not extend this benefit for the 2022-23 school year and meal benefits will be provided for eligible households through free and reduced meal application approval.

The online application process for free and reduced meals is now live and can be accessed here https://gcssd.nlappscloud.com. Families that are eligible for free or reduced meals must apply to receive them, and all other students must pay full price. Meal cost for the 22-23SY are as follows:

Breakfast:

  • Elementary/Middle $1.25 (full) $.30 (reduced)
  • High School $1.50 (full) $.30 (reduced)

Lunch:

  • Elementary/Middle $2.50 (full) $.40 (reduced)
  • High School $2.75 (full) $.40 (reduced)

Students attending the following schools: Dyer, Gibson County High, Kenton, Rutherford, Spring Hill, and Yorkville, will receive meals at no cost due to the school’s participation in Provision 2 of the National School Lunch Program. Provision 2 is an alternative meal program for schools with a high percentage of children eligible for free and reduced meals. Since this is the first year (referred to as the “base” year) for these schools to operate Provision 2, free and reduced meal applications are required to be submitted for ALL eligible families to determine if this alternative program will be financially sound to continue in future years.

Parents will continue to have the opportunity to make easy online meal payments by registering your child’s meal account at www.myschoolbucks.com to add money using a credit or debit card (there is a small transaction fee of $2.75 posed by the company if you choose to use this option), view current balances, and to receive low balance email alerts. Of course, you may send a check or cash to your child’s school cafeteria to make meal payments as well.

GCSSD School Nutrition Department looks forward to a wonderful 2022-23 school year serving students nutritious and healthy meals to aid in their learning process.
